Kamptal

Christoph Edelbauer’s estate, located in Langenlois at the heart of Austria’s prestigious Kamptal wine region, is the realization of his vision to run a small, family-owned winery with exceptional wines. Following a motto of “back to the roots,” he returned in 2003 to the family winery after a string of internships abroad, and began turning this dream into reality.

Christoph has a commitment to a respectful relationship with the land and to the sensitive treatment of his vines as living beings. The vineyards are farmed organically, using natural composting to promote healthy vines and soil greening to create a habitat for beneficial insects. His jewelbox winery is intentionally kept a manageable size, prioritizing a philosophy of harmony with nature over profits. As he says, “only in this way can I carry out every step of the cultivation myself and ensure that we do almost everything by hand.” They are also committed to one hundred percent sustainability, from the earth air conditioning system in the cellars, to the screen-printed bottle labels in lieu of paper ones. Christoph’s love for nature, combined with knowledge, patience, and experience, are all expressed vibrantly through his viticulture and can be tasted in his virtuosic wines.
