2014 Bandol Rouge (Bastide Blanche, Domaine La)

Domaine La Bastide Blanche, Bandol, Provence, France 2013

{organic} 76% Mourvedre, 16% Grenache, 8% Syrah, Cinsault, & Carignan

Known as the greatest red of Provence, Bandol Rouge is made primarily from the bold Mourvedre grape, which lends the wines their power and frequently rustic edge. Sometimes, they can be so rich as to seem a bit harsh, but that isn't the case here. While this example has the typical, classical hallmarks of Bandol, it's perfectly balanced with ripe flavors of dried fruit which renders the tannin less obtrusive and the wine's earthy majesty more accessible.

Serving suggestions: Proven├žal lamb slow roasted w/ garlic, lemon, rosemary & pepper served w/ potatoes & sage. Braised beef shank w/ bone marrow & balsamic roasted Brussels sprouts w/ grilled portobello slices.
