2020 Cotes-du-Rhone Rose (Marjolet, Chateau de)

Chateau de Marjolet, Côtes-Du-Rhône Rose, Southern Rhone, France 2020

60% Cinsault, 30% Grenache, 10% Syrah

Laudun is, perhaps, a lesser-known corner of the Southern Rhône’s right bank, but its proximity to Chateauneuf-du-Pape (on the river’s opposite bank) and, more relevantly, Tavel to its south is telling, and the quality offered by its stony terroir is exceptional. This robust rosé isn’t quite as dense (or dark) as those of the aforementioned Tavel, but its enthusiastic ripeness is reminiscent, and its Cinsault-dominated composition imbues it with wonderful brightness, lively acidity, and impeccable balance.

Serving Suggestions: Oven-roasted Spanish mackerel w/ dill, coriander, & tabouleh w/ briny olives & grape tomatoes. Fresh figs & creamy goat’s milk cheeses (perhaps w/ lavender & fennel).
