2019 Tejo Tinto ''Encosta do Vale Galego'' (Cordeiro, Adega M.)

Adega M. Cordeiro, "Encosta do Vale Galego" Tinto, Tejo, Portugal 2019

{sustainable} 70% Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), 20% Castelāo, 5% Touriga Nacional, 5% Syrah

Not only is this tiny father-and-son team the latest Wine Authorities Selections exclusive, but this is the first time these wines have ever come to the US! Father Manuel retired from his office job and wanted to return to the vineyard and winemaking life his relatives had grown up with. Now he and son João have revitalized an old vineyard at the foot of the beautiful Serra d'Aire, a 2000 foot tall limestone massif that towers over the flat riverbed of the Tejo. The backbone of this deceptively easy drinker is Tempranillo (which the Portugese call Aragonez or Tinta Roriz) while local specialty Castelão adds freshness, and a dash each of Syrah and Touriga Nacional brings a touch more rich, dark fruit.

Serving Suggestion: Lamb or beef shank stew w/ beans, garlic, & lots of rosemary. Barbecued pork ribs w/ sweet, KC style sauce.
