2019 "Initial R" Rosé (Rocalière, Domaine la)

Domaine la Rocalière, "Initial R" Rosé, Southern Rhone, France 2018 {organic} 80% Grenache, 20% Syrah

RIPE RED RASPBERRY RICHNESS, SPLENDID SPICE & TANTALIZING TANG

“Vin de France” or “Tavel by any other name”? This new Domaine La Rocalière offering’s packaging tells us very little: it’s from France and it’s a "rosé wine." Its appearance, on the other hand, speaks volumes (750ml, to be precise). Deep transparent red with an almost iridescent magenta flourish, it doesn’t have the look of a typical, pale, Mediterranean French rosé. Instead, it's deep and dark yet still refreshing – a dead-ringer for the famed wines of Tavel but clocking in at half the price. A WINE AUTHORITIES EXCLUSIVE!

Serving Suggestion: Vietnamese grilled shrimp & pork w/ rice vermicelli, basil, & bean sprouts. Creamy goats milk cheeses.

2020 Bardolino Chiaretto Classico (Marchesini Marcello, Azienda Agricola)

Azienda Agricola Marchesini Marcello, Bardolino Chiaretto Classico, Veneto, Italy 2020

30% Corvina, 30% Corvinone, 20% Rondinella, 20% Molinara

RIPE STRAWBERRY & RASPBERRY, TURKISH DELIGHT, EXOTIC PERFUME

In the Early 1950’s, Plinio Marchesini began humbly making wine on the east bank of Lake Garda in his Bardolino vineyards. His earliest wines were originally meant to be enjoyed with his close friends. However, in the 1990’s, he passed the reins over to his son, Marcello, who has since garnered much acclaim for his Chiaretto, the celebrated local style of rosato. Ethereal flavors of fresh strawberries, raspberries, honey, and rosewater are followed by a faint suggestion of salinity on the finish.

Serving Suggestion: Pistachio-crusted grilled striped bass w/ a watermelon basil salad & sautéed summer squash.

2020 Bardolino Chiaretto Classico "Keya" (Guerrieri-Rizzardi)

Guerrieri Rizzardi, Bardolino Chiaretto Classico "Keya", Veneto, Italy 2020

{organic} 65% Corvina, 15% Rondinella, 20% Sangiovese and Merlot

ZESTY RED BERRY. BLOSSOMS & CITRUS. JUICY & FRESH

Guerrieri-Rizzardi’s “Keya,” short for Chiaretto, bears a surprisingly playful name from an estate (or pair of 1600s estates that merged through marriage just over a century ago) with a history as rich as this one’s, but maybe it should’t be surprising considering the solar-powered, forward-thinking winery’s current incarnation. The rosé, itself, is every bit as playful, bursting with snappy, ripe raspberry & cherryish red fruit, assertively floral aromas, and a finish that delightfully manages to recall watermelon Bubble Yum…yum!!!

Serving Suggestion: General Tso-esque chicken thighs w/ hoisin sauce & Korean red chili flakes w/ thin yuzu-infused sesame seed asparagus. Red radicchio risotto w/ white wine & parmesan.

{organic} 100% Gamay

CHERRY & GREEN STRAWBERRY, LEMON, FENNEL & RADISH SPICE

This lovely rosé pours ballet slipper pink and dances out of the glass with bright, underripe fruit aromas and a spicy herb freshness. One of four selections that we currently (and exclusively for the Southeastern US) offer from Bruyères, a fiercely naturalistic producer. Small and situated across 20 acres just south of Brouilly, smack in the center of the greater Beaujolais region, Jean-Pierre Teissèdre's estate is continuously blowing us away with value and sheer deliciousness.

WILD STRAWBERRY, FRESH & AROMATIC, SUMMER FUN TIMES

First of all, this bottle is awesome. It looks like something my parents would drink in the back of an AMC Gremlin on the way to a Fleetwood Mac concert somewhere around 1973. Oddly enough, Gauthier’s own website describes this wine as “full of Nostalgy [sic]”. But joking aside, this is a fantastically early-blooming addition to our Rosé Garden, full of vibrant strawberry and white cherry fruit with a deeply satisfying texture. Grab your sweetie and crank up the eight track.

Serving Suggestions: Perfect with any array of cheese and charcuterie! Make sure you accompany it with warm sun, good friends, and classic rock.

2020 Bordeaux Rose (Haut Dambert, Chateau)

Chateau Haut Dambert, Rose, Bordeaux, France 2020

{sustainable} 60% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Franc

BRIGHT RED RASPBERRY, RHUBARB & ROSE PETAL

Born in the vineyards "between two seas" this equal-parts cuvée of Cabernet Franc with its offspring, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, drifts calmly yet energetically on its own sea of zesty acidity and vibrant red fruit. Recalling raspberry and dried cranberry, the fruit is ribboned through with wisps of floral and herbaceous perfume. The estate’s Jean-Luc Buffeteau, a trained enologist, treats each varietal differently for this cuvée in order for individual strengths to shine through.

Serving Suggestion: Olive oil-cured albacore w/ pickled artichoke hearts, & raspberry vinaigrette. Zesty tabouli w/ dried sultanas, basil, & olives.

{organic} 75% Grenache, 25% Syrah

BRIGHT RED BERRIES, FRESH BLOSSOMY AROMA, CRISP & JUICY

Corbieres, one of the most celebrated corners of France's sprawling Languedoc, is best known for its spicy and very Mediterranean reds. Considering this, perhaps it shouldn't be surprising then that this deep rosé is brimming with the distinctive character of Grenache, spice, and white-peppery mineral. This wine bears more than a passing family resemblance to the region's exotic red wines. Sister and brother, Martine Pagès and Christophe Molinier of Domaine de la Bouysse never fail to impress us with the breadth and quality of their work!

Monte Tondo, Corvina Rosato Frizzante, Veneto, Italy 2020

{organic} 100% Corvina

CHERRY, RASPBERRY, ALMOND; NICE ACIDITY, TART & JUICY

We rarely see Corvina in pink, fizzy form, but what a lovely surprise! The grape, however, is a staple of some of the most quintessential Italian blends, including Bardolino, Valpolicella, and the august Amarone; generally, the higher the percentage of Corvina, the better the blend. Father and daughter team Gino and Marta Magnabosco hand pick, prune, and sort these grapes, and their honest attentions have produced this earnest yet fun bottle of gentle bubbles.

The Saint-Victoire sub-appellation of the Cotes de Provence wasn’t demarcated until 2005, but it should come as no surprise that any area within this, what is effectively the world capital of rosé production, which manages to rise head and shoulders above its surroundings is truly special. STRAWBERRY & RED RASPBERRY, ROBUST & REFRESHING

Laudun is, perhaps, a lesser-known corner of the Southern Rhône’s right bank, but its proximity to Chateauneuf-du-Pape (on the river’s opposite bank) and, more relevantly, Tavel to its south is telling, and the quality offered by its stony terroir is exceptional. This robust rosé isn’t quite as dense (or dark) as those of the aforementioned Tavel, but its enthusiastic ripeness is reminiscent, and its Cinsault-dominated composition imbues it with wonderful brightness, lively acidity, and impeccable balance.

PEACH BLOSSOM & STRAWBERRY, TONGUE-TINGLING, ZESTY MINERAL

Grolleau Gris is the lighter skinned, pink-ish variant of a once-ubiquitous Loire grape responsible for an ocean's worth of crisp rosés and light-bodied reds. We don’t encounter Grolleau-based wines as much as we once did, and Grolleau Gris is an outright rarity! Thankfully, this rendition from Jérome Choblet, while made in very limited quantities, makes up for all the years that we didn’t know we were missing the variety. Hailing from the Atlantic reaches of the Loire’s Muscadet country, this not-quite-effervescent white tingles with mouthwatering acidity, summery fruit, and that spirit of adventure that can only come from drinking wine made from exotic grapes. Cheers!

LINI, Lambrusco Rosato "Labrusca Lini 910", Emilia Romagna, Italy (2009)

Lambrusco Salamino, Ancellotta

DRY, LIGHT BERRY, HINT OF TANNIN, EFFERVESCENT

"Labrusca" is the Etruscan name for Lambrusco coming from the Latin labrum, meaning "edge." It is believed that Lambrusco grapes grew naturally along the edges of fields cultivated by the Etruscans food crops. Lini was established in 1910 and today is quite possibly the finest Lambrusco in all of Emilia Romagna. Fabio Lini and his daughter Alicia are responsible for this delicious dry, pink version of Lambrusco. Tart and thirst quenching with light tannin from the grape skins, this gentle pink wine has a firm backbone, perfect with picnic food.

Piquepoul Noir, an ancient Mediterranean varietal best known through its lighter skinned mutation (typically called Picpoul) was once a much more prominent force in the world of Rhone and Languedoc reds. Traceable to the 1300s, the grape is most often now encountered in minuscule percentages via high-end Chateauneuf-du-Pape. California iconoclast Matthew Rorick is back at it again, with the most refreshing California rose we can remember. The grapes are picked early, to get a refreshingly low 11% ABV and bright acidity, but the wine still packed with mouthwateringly ripe fruit. 2020 Rosé (1 liter) (Paul D.)

Paul D., Rosé [1 liter], Wagram, Austria, 2020

Zweigelt, Blauberger

BRIGHT RASPBERRY & CHERRY, CLEAN & LEAN, VERY DRY WITH GENEROUS FRUIT

The newest arrival from Paul Direder's small, coveted, and impressively affordable stable of Wagram-borne wines is a rosé featuring the collaboration between two quintessentially Austrian red grapes. The Zweigelt grape and its lesser-known half-brother, Blauburger, have less than a century of existence under their belts, but that doesn't deter them from fueling this light-bodied, pale, and very flavorful dry rosé with spry wisdom and vibrant energy. Relatively low in alcohol, this is destined to become one of our favorite diurnal sippers in no time!

Serving Suggestion: Yakitori skewers – chicken, quail egg, & pork belly! Other preparations of crispy grilled chicken. Peppery fried red cabbage, onion, & diced pineapple.

2020 Rosé de Loire (Cady, Domaine)

Domaine Cady, Rosé de Loire, Middle Loire, France, 2020

{organic} 50% Gamay, 50% Grolleau

CHERRY & TART DAMSON PLUM, JUICY & CRISP, WISPY MINERAL

A collaboration between the famous Gamay and the decidedly less famous but very rosé-friendly workhorse grape, Grolleau, this vibrant, ruby-tented sipper is an elegantly expressive and beautifully balanced representative of what we love about Middle Loire rosé. While it hails from Anjou, it’s a very different beast from the famously off-dry blushes of the Anjou region we might have expected a generation ago. No, this one is completely dry with flourishes of red berry and tart, stone fruit-like flavors. The finish is cleansing and supported by delicately mineralistic notes, making this a great companion for delicate, salty dishes with high acidity and/or creamy consistencies.

Serving Suggestion: Gravlax. Cold rice vermicelli salad w/ cucumber, sweet cherry tomatoes, diced jalapeño, & rice wine vinegar.

2019 Rosé, Vaucluse "Sud Absolu" (Ligiere, Domaine La)

Domaine La Ligiere, Vaucluse Rosé "Sud Absolu", Southern Rhone, France 2018

{organic} 100% Carignan

JUICY RASPBERRY & LEMON ZEST, FIRM & HYPER-REFRESHING

Carignan, with its reputation for robust rusticity, is probably not the grape that you'd immediately suspect upon tasting this vibrantly berryish, lean, clean, and by no means mean rosé from the northwestern fringe of the Provençal countryside. As eloquently balanced as this wine is, we can't help but think of it as the adult equivalent of a raspberry-lemon push pop – served cold and filled with firm red fruit flavors and citrusy tang! This is just one of the many gems from Domaine La Ligière's paradisiacal Southern Rhone vineyards…

Serving Suggestion: Papaya salad w/ grilled squid & pork. Battered & fried cubanelle peppers w/ lemon juice & paprika.

2020 Spatburgunder Rosé "Funkenflug" (Gysler, Alexander)

Alexander Gysler, Spatburgunder Rosé "Funkenflug", Rheinhessen, Germany 2020

{biodynamic} 100% Pinot Noir (Spatburgunder)

BLACK CHERRY & LINGONBERRY, LUSH & FRESH, GENTLE & LINGERING

Gysler’s affinity for assertive ripeness suits this rich rendition of Pinot Noir (in rosé form) to a T. Utilizing the grape’s German nom de guerre, Spätburgunder (referencing the grape’s Burgundian origins and late-ripening proclivities), the estate does tremendous work with the variety. Mouth caressingly juicy and bursting with intensely red aromas, this is the sort of rosé that, while plenty refreshing in warmer months, continues to be seductive throughout the year – especially as a companion for fall and winter feasts.

Serving Suggestion: Beet, lentil, & grape tomato salad w/ grilled salmon on a bed of arugula w/ balsamic vinaigrette & fresh cracked pepper. Dressing cakes w/ chestnuts, cranberries, sage, & smoked carrot shavings.

JUICY RASPBERRY & BRIGHT RED PLUM, WISPY GARRIGUES

Slightly less than half of the 120 acre estate falls within Tavel, a region of rosé royalty. True to form, this is a deeply colored, bold wine brimming with spicy perfume and juicy, mouthfilling fruit. While still refreshing, this pink pleasure also appeals to a desire for richer, more intense flavor.

2020 Zweigelt Rosé "Rosanna" (Netzl)

Netzl, "Rosanna" Zweigelt Rosé, Carnuntum, Austria 2020

{organic} 100% Zweigelt

RIPE BERRY, FRESH & CHEERFUL, ZESTY SPICE

The Carnuntum region lies just southeast of Vienna and continues to gain momentum and fanfare for its lively reds. This rosé rendition is named for his daughter, Anna Marie, and showcases the bright, berryish signatures of Zweigelt with fleshy ripeness and spice.

Serving Suggestion: Best w/ a picnic blanket, fresh fruit salad, smoked trout dip w/ pepper crackers, & spinach salad with spicy pecans, bacon bits and mushrooms.
