2020 Anjou Rouge (Cady, Domaine)

Domaine Cady, Anjou Rouge, Middle Loire, France, 2020

{organic} 100% Cabernet Franc

BRIGHT CHERRY, FRESH HERBS, SILKY & CRISP

Cabernet Franc is a key player in illustrious Bordeaux blends, and the solo star of the Middle Loire- including the less famous Anjou Rouge. These often fall into a fun category the French call “vins de soif”: bottles whose sublime simplicity keeps you reaching across the table for another pour. The Cadys’ version is translucently ruby; savory herbs and tangy cherry notes keep you refreshed. Try a slight chill on this one in the summer.

Serving Suggestion: Think of drinking this by the carafe outside a cafe, w/ a fresh baguette, local cheeses, & cornichons.

2017 Chinon "Cuvée Terroir" (Gouron, Domaine)

Domaine Gouron, Chinon "Cuvee Terroir", Loire Valley, France 2017

{sustainable} 100% Cabernet Franc

BLACK TEA, MEDIUM-BODIED, OPEN, RIPE & SUPPLE

The Gouron family has farmed their estate for five generations in the region of Chinon. The unique gravelly- sloped soils are key to the structure they get from the vines. This cuvée called "Terroir" reflects this gravel and the 50- year old vines planted there. More Pinot Noir-esque in style, the Cabernet Franc here is wide open with a knife edge balance of fruit and acidity from start to finish. Supple and ripe, the finish is pure black tea and red berry fruit. No oak in this cuvée.

Serving Suggestion: A match for seared duck breast with savory thyme and blackberry sauce; or beef tenderloin with sautéed smoked bacon and mushroom topping.

BOLD RED PLUM & CASSIS. ELEGANTLY EARTHY & HERBACEOUS

This is 100% Cabernet Franc, the red grape most beloved to the central portions of France's Loire Valley. Beautifully inky, purple, and fresh, this Cab Franc abounds with perfumy cassis, fleshy black cherry, autumnal leaves and moderate tannins! A Wine Authorities exclusive!

2016 Orléans Cléry Rouge (Clos Saint Fiacre)

Clos Saint Fiacre, Orleans Clery Rouge, Loire Valley, France 2016

{sustainable} 100% Cabernet Franc

BRIGHT BLACK FRUIT, SILKY TANNINS, SOFT SPICE

Cabernet Franc is king when it comes to Loire Valley reds. The relatively new Orléans-Clery appellation looks to build on that tradition, even if it's well northeast of the other Cabernet Franc dominated regions. The secret to achieving proper ripeness this far north is sandy soil, which traps heat and provides drainage in the cold, wet Upper Loire. Bénédicte Montigny-Piel and her husband Hubert Piel deliver us a cuvée full of fresh plums and raspberries, a smattering of black pepper on the palate, with a silky smooth long finish.

Serving Suggestions: A versatile pick! Braised venison w/ rich, mushroom sauce. With a slight chill, would be lovely alongside simple grilled vegetables & mushrooms tossed in EVOO/herb mix.

2018 Saumur-Champigny (Duveau, Famille)

Famille Duveau, Saumur-Champigny, Loire Valley, France 2018

100% Cabernet Franc

DAMSON PLUM & CURRANT, FORESTY HERBS, GRAPHITE & VIOLETS

Saumur and the more revered (exclusively red) Saumur Champigny provide us with some of the most elegant, delicate, and aromatic Cabernet Franc we’ll encounter. The gentle, silky tannins and extroverted purple-red fruit are subtle and seductive, supported by a potpourri of dill, juniper, and dried flowers which, while the wines in question are undeniably different, could make sought after Oregonian Pinots positively green with envy. Formerly among our selections as Domaine Guilloterie, Patrice and Philippe Duveau’s wines have long been among our favorites from this enclave of the Loire Valley.

Serving Suggestion: Crispy grilled chicken wings with dill, rosemary, & greek cucumber yogurt sauce. Baked/broiled Brussels sprouts w/ Worcestershire sauce, balsamic vinegar, and butter.
