2017 Corvina (Monte Tondo)

Monte Tondo, Corvina, Veneto, Italy 2017

100% Corvina

BLACK CHERRY, COCOA & AUTUMN LEAVES

Corvina is the starring red grape of Verona, often working alongside Rondinella and Molinara. Valpolicella, famously, is infused with its vibrant black fruit. Here we find Corvina in a solo role and without oak influence. Brimming with fresh cherries, it opens up with a flirtatious potpourri on the nose and finishes with silky tannins that draw you back for another sip. Gino Magnabosco and his daughters deliver sheer, distinctive beauty with this.

Serving Suggestion: Summer vegetables charred over an open fire. Panini stuffed w/ your favorite salami and cheese.

2016 Soave "San Rocco" (Monte Tondo)

Monte Tondo, Soave "San Rocco", Veneto, Italy 2016

100% Garganega

MEYER LEMON, PEAR, VIBRANT, LEES & SALINE

We're overjoyed that Soave has rebounded from ages of mediocrity! Two decades ago, top producers here began realizing the magic of the Garganega grape and produced distinctive, delicious wines of character, albeit at a higher price. We are now seeing the fruits of their labor trickle down, with reasonably priced gems such as this popping up. Monte Tondo does both, high-end and value wines of distinction.

Serving Suggestions: Scampetti con Polenta, which is the original Italian shrimp and grits. Risi e Bisi, the famous rice and peas dish of the Veneto region.

2015 Soave Spumante Brut (Monte Tondo)

Monte Tondo, Soave Spumante Brut, Veneto, Italy 2015

100% Garganega

PERFUMY PEAR & KIWI. BRIGHT, SOFT, DRY & CLEAN

Garganega, aside from sounding like one of Godzilla’s foes, is a grape you should get to know in all of its iterations. Most famous is the dry still wine of Soave, which beginning about a decade ago rocketed in quality and is now a go to wine for fans of aromatic dry whites and their versatility. This sparkling version is a great aperitivo!

Serving Suggestion: Tom Yum soup and related soups of south east Asian origin. Similar salads with spiciness, ginger, sour & salty and a bit of rustic funk.

2017 Valpolicella Superiore "San Pietro" (Monte Tondo)

Monte Tondo, Valpolicella Superiore "San Pietro", Veneto, Italy 2017

CRANBERRY & KIRSCH, SUAVE & VELVETY, PINOT-LIKE APPEAL

Many wine regions (and grape varieties) can be called chameleons, but few are quite as consummately qualified shapeshifters as Valpolicella (and it’s main man, the Corvina grape). This rendition from Veronese mainstay Monte Tondo exhibits lithe, elegant structure and food-friendly bravado with a collision of vibrant dark fruit and an almost Pinot-like silkiness. Falling between the lightest and freshest reds the region has to offer and the heftier Ripasso style, it’s versatile, approachable, and captivating. Romeo and Juliet have never felt this way, I bet.

Serving Suggestion: Pheasant w/ red wine-porcini risotto. Roasted creminis w/ parmesan polenta.
