2017 Shiraz "Out of the Park" (Flegenheimer Bros.)

Flegenheimer Bros., Shiraz, McLaren Vale, Australia 2017

Shiraz

DIZZYINGLY DARK FRUIT, DEFT & DENSE, BLACK PEPPER

Flegenheimer Bros. was a New York-based family business that specialized in the sale of fine wines from 1876 until Prohibition in 1919. The youngest member of the family, Benjamin Hammerschlag, decided to honor his heritage by making wine in McLaren Vale in South Australia. His Out of the Park Shiraz comes from high-altitude vineyards in the Seaview area and is aged in neutral oak to let the robust fruit and bright acidity shine through. If you enjoy heady, powerful reds full of fruit and spice, look no further!

Serving Suggestion: Skirt steak w/ caramelized shallots & endive salad. Grilled eggplant & red pepper sandwiches w/ halloumi.

2017 Shiraz "The Winner's Tank" (Eskadale Vineyards)

Eskadale Vineyards, "The Winner's Tank" Shiraz, Langhorne Creek, Australia 2017

100% Shiraz

BOLD, BERRY PRESERVES, SMOKE, LUSH, FAT & RUSTIC

In true Aussie spirit, a strong rivalry exists between the three neighboring towns in the local Australian Rules Football competition. Each year the winning team heads out to the vineyard to paint the tank in their team colors. Brief aging in French oak adds dimension, but the brevity means no real oakiness to be found. This is pure fruit driven Shiraz. So ripe, it might squirt juice if you squeeze the bottle too much. Glass staining purple-ness, strawberry and raspberry fruit, black licorice and freshness abound.

Serving Suggestion: Try this one with lamb chops marinated in rosemary and juniper berry or venison stew; Louisiana red beans and rice with Andouille.
