2014 Chardonnay (Belle Pente)

Belle Pente, Chardonnay, Willamette Valley, Oregon 2014

100% Chardonnay

ROUND PINEAPPLE & PEAR, MATURE YET LIVELY

Mature, elegant Chardonnay is something that gets us really excited. Really, quite, very excited.  Unfortunately, few Chardonnays are built to age gracefully, and those that are tend to be prohibitively pricey, but after six years of bottle aging, Belle Pente's Chardonnay is still drinking beautifully.  In one local touch you won't often see, Belle Pente uses 50% homegrown Oregon oak, in addition to 50% French oak.  Despite what sounds like a lot of oak from all over, the wine is not too oaky, since only 10-15% of the barrels are new. Harvesting in two waves gives the wine a perfect balance between rich ripeness and fresh brightness.

Serving Suggestion: Creamy homemade mac and cheese w/ Firsthand Foods Country Breakfast sausage crumbles. Carrot salad w/ lemon-Dijon vinaigrette.

2019 Chardonnay (Stoller)

Stoller, Chardonnay, Dundee Hills, Oregon, US 2019

100% Chardonnay

FORELLE PEAR & LEMON CURD, ZESTY & FIRM, AIN’T OAKED

From the revered Dundee hills of Willamette Valley, this oak-free Chardonnay has the balance of ripe concentration and zealous acidity that we’re quick to associate with outstanding contemporary white Burgundy from the area’s more southerly regions like Pouilly-Fuissé or Viré-Clessé. It’s no surprise given Oregon’s ever-increasingly cemented aptitude for the varieties native to France's eastern climes. Stoller’s contiguous plots of vines, however, are special, surrounded by mountains that create a uniquely warm mesoclimate and ensure awesome ripeness.

Serving Suggestion: Panfried rainbow trout w/ lemon pepper & skinny asparagus w/ Dijon mustard. Squash & scallion tempura w/ aioli.

2016 Chardonnay "Bunker Hill" (Lingua Franca)

Lingua Franca, Chardonnay "Bunker Hill", Willamette Valley, Oregon, US, 2016

100% Chardonnay

MOUTHWATERING GOLDEN APPLE, GRACEFUL TOAST, LEMON ZEST

Combining zealous zestiness and underlying toasty oak, this Oregonian Chardonnay masterpiece carries itself more like Beaune-borne royalty than the stereotypically buttery denizens of California (we’re not saying all, but you know who you are!) yet manages to be more unto itself than derivative of any particular Chard that’s come before. That said, it’s textbook-ishly orchardy with bright, fragrant tree-fruit and delicately floral notes in a firm, elegant frame. Truly majestic.

Serving Suggestion: Seared scallops w/ clarified butter, lemon zest, & white wine. Nutty Comté, Cantal vieux, or Gruyère.

{biodynamic} 100% Pinot Noir

ELEGANT, SMOOTH, & AROMATIC. CHERRY & EARTH, LIGHT SPICE

Lingua Franca not only refers to a universal language, “but also means ‘to speak frankly,’ just as our wines aim to speak directly of their terroir.” Hailing from the volcanic soil of Lingua Franca’s Eola-Amity hillside vineyards, this eloquent wine speaks volumes. Red fruits, river stone, dried leaves, and rose petals on the nose introduce flavors of dusty cherry, raspberry, and earth, all accented by juicy acidity. The conversation closes with a long yet fresh finish.

2016 Pinot Noir Estate "Shea Vineyard" (Shea Wine Cellars)

Shea Wine Cellars, Estate Pinot Noir "Shea Vineyard", Yamhill-Carlton District, Willamette Valley, Oregon, US 2016

BLACK CHERRY, VIOLET, MUSHROOM, RICH & LENGTHY

Shea Vineyards used to sell their entire crop to high-end Pinot producers throughout Oregon, and remains one of the most sought after growers on the West Coast. They figured they ought to keep some of the good stuff for themselves, so they started with this Estate bottling from their most serendipitous lots. This is a fine example of how Oregon Pinot Noir can gracefully walk the line between Burgundian and New World style wine, with earthy notes and hearty acidity backing up ripe, lip-smacking dark fruit.

Serving Suggestions: Pork loin with red onion compote and a side of warm Bibb salad with Oregon smoky blue cheese and hazelnuts.
