2017 Pinot Noir ''Southern Valleys'' (Spy Valley)

Spy Valley, Pinot Noir "Southern Valleys", Marlborough, New Zealand 2017

100% Pinot Noir

JUICY CHERRYISH FRUIT MARBLED WITH HERBACEOUS SPICE AND NOTES OF RUSTIC UNDERBRUSH

Firm, classic, and with brambly undercurrents that remind us of fall, this Marlborough Pinot stylistically rises, perhaps, somewhere between its famous colleagues further south in Central Otago and those from across the Pacific in Oregon’s Willamette. Herbaceous spice and rustic underbrush notes marble juicy cherryish fruit that is unmistakably that of Pinot Noir. Spy Valley takes its eccentric name (and Morse code-adorned label) from proximity to a nearby secure communications base, but the estate isn’t secretive about its passion for terroir and sustainability.

Serving Suggestions: Shepherd’s pie w/ ground mutton, onions, & peas topped w/ smashed &/or scalloped sweet potatoes. Pizza w/ pecorino, fiddleheads, leeks, & sliced grape tomatoes.

Barker's Marque, "3 Brooms" Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, NZ 2021

100% Sauvignon Blanc

LIME ZEST, CAPSICUM, GRAPEFRUIT PEEL, DILL, FRESH HERB

3 Brooms is a sort of family crest for the Barker family in New Zealand. This style of Marlborough Sauvignon is fresh and tangy with a medium body, very ripe fruit flavors, bright acidity and a long finish with a faint spritziness. We love this style for the food friendly nature and juicy core of citrus that blooms from the glass with distinct Jalapeño/Capsicum in the background.

Serving Suggestion: Marinated fresh goat cheese w/ herbs on baguette; oysters on the half shell w/ an orange/lemon vinaigrette; seafood tacos w/ mango salsa.

2020 Sauvignon Blanc Wairarapa (Paddy Borthwick)

Paddy Borthwick, Sauvignon Blanc, Wairarapa, New Zealand 2020

100% Sauvignon Blanc

CANTALOUPE & MELON. RIPE PASSIONFRUIT. LYCHEE & GOOSEBERRY. FRESH ACIDITY.

Having only 3% of land under vine and contributing only 1% of total production, Wairarapa is home to many of New Zealand’s smaller producers. This is where we find the Paddy Borthwick Estate. In 1985, Paddy, as a way to diversify his family’s legacy of farming (over 75 years!), decided to train as a viticulturist and winemaker. In 1996, after working across the globe perfecting his skills, he and his father began planting what came to be Borthwick Vineyard. This Sauvignon Blanc, with a wonderful balance of acidity and tropicality, is a prime example of what the sub-region of Gladstone has to offer. The alluvial soil found throughout the vineyard allows for smaller, more concentrated grapes, ultimately intensifying their flavor. In the end, a quintessential New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc!

Serving Suggestion: Grilled spicy grouper tacos w/ cilantro-lime crema & cotija cheese. Fish & chips. Grilled asparagus wrapped in bacon.
