100% Bukettraube SUPER EXOTIC, FLORAL, SPICY, OFF-DRY AND RICH A grape variety from the super-obscure category: Bukettraube or Bouquettraube [France]. This grape is planted in miniscule amounts in France, Germany and South Africa. Think of this as a wine that tastes like Chenin Blanc meets Sauvignon Blanc meets Riesling and Muscat. Big and friendly, spicy and slightly off-dry, Cederberg's version shows apricot, honey, peach, gooseberry and exotic melon flavors. The palate has a touch of sweetness only to be balanced by a wallop of acidity on the finish, like a sweet tart. Serving Suggestion: A must with anything hot and spicy. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon BLACKBERRY & CASSIS, CHOCOLATE & CEDAR, PEPPER & HERBS Cabernet isn’t the first red variety which springs to mind when most of us think of South Africa. That distinction would almost certainly belong to the essentially exclusive and increasingly illusive Pinotage. Cab, however, is the grape responsible for the most Cape’s most revered reds. This broad-shouldered beauty's rich, ripe fruit and creamy oak influence lend an air of sumptuousness while the pepper-like and herbaceous notes hint a bit at Cab's more Cab Franc or Carmenere-ish side. From the lithe, gleamingly black-fruited output of northwestern Bordeaux to the dense, decadent, and resoundingly ripe renditions of Napa, Cab’s a man of a thousand faces (sorry, Lon!). This rendition from the venerable vineyards of the Glenelly Estate carries off an impressive balancing act, bridging the brighter intensity of the grape with resolutely new-worldish inclinations, robust ripeness, and a pronounced peppery note that wouldn’t be out of place in close relatives Carmenere or Cab Franc. {sustainable} 100% Pinotage BLACK CHERRY & CURRANT, LEATHER, BLACK TEA & VANILLA We’re absolutely not trying to cuss Pinotage, but we’ve no choice but to open with the undeniably backhanded compliment that this is a particularly (dare we say peculiarly?) elegant example of the variety. The uniquely South African Cinsault/Pinot Noir crossing is infamous for its smoky, meaty (even gamy) persona. This rendition keeps a bit of that in sight, for sure, but it’s also got a poise and balance rarely encountered in wines made from the grape. Dating back to the 1700s, Beaumont’s cellar was originally operated by the legendary Dutch East India Company. Its contemporary history began in the mid 70s when it was purchased by the Beaumonts.
